Description

Goan Pomfret Caldine or Goan Caldine Fish Curry a very easy delicious traditional recipe. This Pomfret Caldinho is a yellow green color goan fish curry made with coconut juice. If pomfret is not available any other fish can be substituted. Check how to make pomfret caldine fish curry in goan style.


Ingredients

For Goan Fish Caldine Curry

  • 500 gms pomfrets cleaned and washed
  • 1 onion finely chopped medium
  • 1 tomato finely chopped medium
  • 1/2 inch ginger grated
  • 23 green chillies slit
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • salt and vinegar as required

For Goan Fish Caldino Masala Paste

  • 1/2 cup fresh coconut scraped
  • 3 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds jeera
  • 4 flakes garlic
  • 6 peppercorns
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 small sized ball of tamarind

Instructions

  1. For Goan Caldine Fish Curry, first,  slice the pomfrets into pieces and apply salt to prepare pomfret caldinho.
  2. Grind all the ingredients in Fish Caldino Masala Paste with warm water to fine paste
  3. Then extract and strain the juice of this Fish caldinho paste, which is thick caldine juice and keep it aside
  4. Then extract more caldin juice out of the remaining seperately with little more warm water and keep seperately, which will be thin caldine juice
  5. Heat oil in the cooking pan and fry onions till they become soft, then add ginger and further fry for few seconds
  6. Then add tomatoes and saute till they become soft
  7. Further add the thin caldine juice and bring it to a boil
  8. Slowly add the pomfret pieces and chillies and let it cook till the pomfret it nearly done.
  9. Then add the thick caldino juice and sugar and slowly stir it (DON’T STIR TOO MUCH)
  10. Then add the vinegar and salt according to your taste and let it cook till completely done.
  11. And finally your Goan Pomfret Caldine /  Pomfret Caldinho Curry Recipe is ready to be served with rice .

  •  if pomfrets are not available any other fish can be used
