Description

Indian Chicken Biryani is a well known rice dish from the Indian sub continent. And is one of the best dish that is loved by all Indians. Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Basmati rice
  • 4 Onions medium size sliced thinly
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 7 Green chillies slit opened
  • 3 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 3/4 cup mint leaves chopped
  • 3/4 cup coriander leaves chopped
  • 1 cup Yogurt diluted to 2 cups
  • 1/2 tsp tumeric powder

Marinate

  • 1 kg chicken
  • 3/4 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 3 tbsp Yogurt
  • 2 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 3/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • salt to taste

Tempering

  • 6 tbsp oil
  • 10 cloves
  • 4 cinnamon stick
  • 3 bay leaf
  • 7 Cardamon

Instructions

  1. Wash the chicken, drain the water , then apply the ingredient under marinate and keep it aside for atleast 30 minutes.
  2. Wash and soak the rice for atleast 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in the pressure cooker, then add cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaves and cardamon one by one and fry for few seconds, then add onions and fry for few seconds more. Then add green chillies, mint leaves, coriander leaves and sprinkle little salt and saute for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Then add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell goes. Then add tomatoes and saute till tomatoes become soft and pasty.
  5. Now add marinated chicken, chilli powder, tumeric powder and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Then cover and cook till 3/4 of chicken is cooked.
  7. Then add 2 cups yogurts with 4 to 5 cups of water, salt and allow it to get boiled.
  8. Once it starts boiling, reduce the flame and let it get cooked for another 3 minutes.
  9. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pressure cooker, cook it for 1-2 whistles.

Notes

  • If the pressure cooker is not used and then cooking is done on stove then cook rice with lid closed till the 80% of the water is absorbed. Then cover the lid with some clean cloth or dough and cook with low heat for 6-7 minutes till the biryani is done.
